Wording seems baseless and non-neutral concerning Freeh report

[edit]

In the "Posthumous Findings" subsection, Freeh's findings are labeled a "mischaracterization" for unclear reasons and wording that specifies "press" as the ones "inferring" from it further baselessly spins a subtly doubtful undertone. The three sources for this line are two news articles that do not suggest that the Freeh report "mischaracterized" anything (presumably, this is supposed to evidence the "inferred by press" line) as well as a broken link. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FRKatona (talkcontribs) 18:56, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Reads like this was written by a cabal of PS alums. Gag. No one us fooled. But that is wiki for you. Never an issue it can't bias. NaySay (talk) 18:29, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This is a comment about the issue regarding a misinforming fact. Joe Paterno at no point concealed any information about Sandusky. This was cleared in 2015 during the reinvestigation when they returned his titles to Penn State. A more accurate representation of Paterno's name is that he was used as a scape goat. It is widely known that this is true. I don't mean to be rude about all this, but it is horrible that you paint Penn State and Paterno in such a horrible light in this article. Paint Snadusky in that light, not Paterno. 2600:1700:840:5DD0:392F:8529:9317:FD93 (talk) 03:56, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

1st paragraph

[edit]

1st paragraph has a wording issue right after the number of wins. Deleting a word or 2 would smooth things out. CareCareSC (talk) 17:52, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Too much weight is given to the 2011 sex abuse scandal in this article

[edit]

While one can argue about Joe Paterno's culpability in the Sandusky scandal (my personal feelings are irrelevant, so I won't elucidate on them), it's important to note that while the 2011 sex abuse scandal did leave a black mark on Paterno's legacy (be it deserved or not), it does not and did not define his career anymore than it defines Woody Hayes's career that Dr. Strauss was sexually abusing young men (some of whom were underage) or Bo Schembechler's career that there was sex abuse from one of his staff members. It should be a smaller section pushed further down on the page with Paterno's accomplishments and successes listed above. The amount of weight given to that section unfairly associates him primarily with the sex abuse scandal. It's important to remember that whether or not Paterno should have done more or not, whether or not the media was fair or unfair in its coverage, it was Sandusky, not Paterno, that molested children, and most of his crimes were not done through Penn State but through the Second Mile charity (this does not absolve Penn State's AD Tim Curley, president Graham Spanier, chief of campus police Gary Schultz nor DA Gricar from their inaction and tone-deaf handling of the matter, but the weight given to it on Paterno's article violates NPOV). And besides, we already have a separate article for those who want to read in-depth about the scandal. 2600:1016:A110:2E8E:DC87:7642:808:36B3 (talk) 22:14, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
